Okay, so this may be old news to most of you but I did not watch the Academy Awards last night (I never watch). Here is the video of Heath Ledger's parents and sister accepting the Oscar on his behalf for Best Supporting Role:

Batman Giant Comics To Color

My copy of the Batman and Robin Battle the Joker in "The Comedy of Tears" Giant Comics To Color has not aged well. I probably should not have taken the back cover off to hang on my wall back in 1975. I was ten years old then and never dreamed that I would one day be posting a few pictures of the giant coloring book on something called the Internet. I only colored about half of the pages and the pages are really yellow. I did fool around with the saturation on the coloring pages to show the actual artwork.

I am only presenting the cover and the first three pages but you can click them for larger images:

The Joker Helicopter

McDonald's started selling Happy Meals with Lego Batman toys for the boys and Madame Alexander's The Wizard of Oz dolls for the girls today. I managed to snag The Joker Helicopter, which is the second toy out of the eight available. The cockpit has the Crown Prince of Crime, a pop-on blade, a rotating spotlight and an odd-shapped missle that is yellowish in color. The missle can be placed in a spring slot underneath and released by pushing a button on the back.

Two panels of the Happy Meal box is devoted to the Lego Batman toys while the other two panels is devoted to the Madame Alexander's The Wizard of Oz dolls (remember when each Happy Meal toy series had their own boxes?). My sister got the first toy in that set, which is Dorothy. There is a find the five hidden Jokers game, find hidden foes and a bat-signal pop-out that you can attached to a flashlight. I don't know if there are other boxes but there should be since the only toys shown is the bat-boat, Mr. Freeze, Penguin boat (?), Batman and Robin.

I like the missle and the rotating blade but the spotlight seems like a useless feature. I would rather have the cockpit open up so I could see the Joker better. Overall, I have to give The Joker Helicopter a 6 out of 10.

For those who are curious, my Happy Meal consisted of a cheeseburger, fries and a Sprite.

Super Corgi Juniors Cars

These are my super Corgi Junior diecast cars from the 1970s. The front row has the Joker (called Healer Wheeler on the bottom and is missing the little blue plastic knob on top) and the Penguin. The back row has the Supervan, Batcopter (with only half of the back propeller) and the Batmobile. I actually found these in a local store when I was a kid and I played with them a lot.

Not pictured is the 007 Lotus Esprit submarine/car from The Spy Who Loved Me but I might make a separate post featuring that one at a latter date.

This Is No Joke So Goodnight, Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger, who protrays the Joker in this summer's The Dark Knight, died this afternoon at the age of 28. You can read about his death at CNN.com and I'm still in shock about his tragic death. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
