Thrift Store Find: McDonald's Lightning Lad

Put me down on the list of not getting any of the Legion of Super Heroes toys when they originally came with McDonald's Happy Meals a few years ago. The action figures were based on the cartoon show. I found a Lightning Lad figure still in the original box this morning at a local thrift store for twenty-five cents. A trading card still in the plastic came with it. The figure itself does not stand on its own but I do like the box and card.

Thrift Store Finds: Superman Knightfall

I actually found these two items at two different thrift stores on Friday morning but I am just now getting around to posting about them. The Superman action figure has some wear on the paint and smells like crayons but it was only fifty cents. The Batman: Knightfall by Dennis O'Neil paperback book was had for a dollar and a half.

Marvel Universe Pez

I went on a road trip yesterday and found three Marvel Universe Pez dispensers at Hastings for $1.79 each. They only had the Hulk, Spider-Man and Wolverine left but no Iron Man. However, I did take the empty display box with me to the register. The cashier asked me if I wanted the box and I said yes. I got the Marvel Universe Pez display box for free.



I also picked up several three comic packs for $2.99 each but I will be posting more about them later. I will write that I now have four copies of Barbie and Baby Sister Kelly #1.

Thrift Store Finds: Star Wars Bobble Heads

I had to work today so I did not get to the thrift stores. However, my sister found for me a bag of action figures for fifty cents. The following two Star Wars bobble heads were found in McDonald's Happy Meals in 2008:

The other action figures in the bag included two from Kung Fu Panda: Monkey with spinning bamboo staff and Tai Lung with kicking action. An unknown action figure was also in the bag and looks like he is from Mucha Lucha (a show that I only watched once). I have been doing a search for his identity but I am having no luck. He is wearing a red with yellow trim mask, red tie, white suit jacket, white shirt, black gloves, black pants and yellow boots that appears to have spikes or spurs attached to them. The copyright has McD's 2008 and 2007 Viacom.

Thrift Store Find: Spider-Man Water Squirter

To be honest, I had no clue what this toy was other than Spider-Man sitting on a barrel. I had to search Google and eBay to find out that it was a water squirter. According to the auction, this toy was released in 2002 by Playfully Years. The Spider-Man water squirter that I found was missing the bottom part. The toy is 2.5 inches overall. The back has 2001 Marvel and Playfully Yours China while the bottom has three holes. Not a bad find for fifty cents.

Starfleet Command Badge

I decided to pick up a box of Kellogg's Corn Pops yesterday since it was on sale. I did not get the toy until this morning before I mowed the grass. I lucked out and found the Starfleet Command Badge. I only need the Starfleet Science and Klingon Empire badges to complete the set.

Romulan Empire Badge

I found this Romulan Empire badge in a box of Froot Loops as part of Kellogg's Star Trek beam-up badge premium toys collection and emits a green beam of light when the center is pressed:

Now I only need three more to finish the set.

Star Trek Beam-Me Up Badge

I like Star Trek much better than Star Wars but I cannot see the new movie on the big screen due to finances. However, I just had to get a box of Kellogg's Rice Krispies so I can obtain a Star Trek Beam-Me Up Badge. I like the cereal and I like the toy even better. The set has five badges: three Starfleet (command, engineering and science), one Klingon and one Romulan. I managed to obtain the engineering beam-me up badge that lights up when you press a button on the side.

Venom Squirter

I was going to post about the Venom squirter on Saturday night after I got it but I never got around to it. This toy is the fourth toy in the Spectacular Spider-Man Happy Meal series from McDonald's. The toy has to be held under the water to fill it. My sister said it reminded her of King Kong with the huge arms.

Found: Hot Wheels '09 #7 '66 Batmobile

I was suprised that I found this Hot Wheels '09 #7 '66 Batmobile this morning at the local Wal-Mart Super Center. I love the gold rims but even better is that the front of the card has an image of the Batmobile while the back has some basic info.

Dark Knight Collectible Stickers And Figurines

I took a road trip yesterday but only snagged the following four comics: The Brave and the Bold #19, 20, Justice League of America #27 and 28. These will probably be my last new comics that I will be buying unless I hit the lottery.

I did pick up two bags of the Dark Knight Collectible Stickers and Figurine. A bag of seven stickers and a Batman figurine were selling for $3.49 at Hastings. A big downside is that the thin stickers warp due to the odd-shaped figurines. The first bag had stickers #19, 35, 72, 77, 119, 123, 169 and 170 while the second bag had stickers #19, 30, 57, 72, 77, 110, 169 and 180. According to the back of the bag, the set has 6 figurines and 180 stickers (144 standard, 12 holographic foil, 12 kiss-cut and 12 PVC). The Dark Knight figurines are very nice and are three inches tall.

Spider-Man Wall Clinger 2004

I found a Spider-Man wall clinger from 2004 at a local thrift store on Saturday for fifty cents. He has the classic colors instead of the movie colors. The back of his left leg has 2004 Marvel, Gosrich Group, Inc. and Made In China. He originally came with a bottle of bubble bath that was not found at the thrift store.

The Batboat

We had McDonald's again last night so I ended up getting another Happy Meal. This time around, I got the batboat, which is the first toy in the set. The box was the same and I had a hard time getting the mini ski boat to go very far. I did like that feature of having Batman's head turn around depending on if the mini ski boat is inside the batboat or not. The batwings on the back can rotate so that makes for a cooler feature. Overall, I give the batboat a 7 out of 10.

The Joker Helicopter

McDonald's started selling Happy Meals with Lego Batman toys for the boys and Madame Alexander's The Wizard of Oz dolls for the girls today. I managed to snag The Joker Helicopter, which is the second toy out of the eight available. The cockpit has the Crown Prince of Crime, a pop-on blade, a rotating spotlight and an odd-shapped missle that is yellowish in color. The missle can be placed in a spring slot underneath and released by pushing a button on the back.

Two panels of the Happy Meal box is devoted to the Lego Batman toys while the other two panels is devoted to the Madame Alexander's The Wizard of Oz dolls (remember when each Happy Meal toy series had their own boxes?). My sister got the first toy in that set, which is Dorothy. There is a find the five hidden Jokers game, find hidden foes and a bat-signal pop-out that you can attached to a flashlight. I don't know if there are other boxes but there should be since the only toys shown is the bat-boat, Mr. Freeze, Penguin boat (?), Batman and Robin.

I like the missle and the rotating blade but the spotlight seems like a useless feature. I would rather have the cockpit open up so I could see the Joker better. Overall, I have to give The Joker Helicopter a 6 out of 10.

For those who are curious, my Happy Meal consisted of a cheeseburger, fries and a Sprite.

Superhero Catalogs

In the 1970s, Heroes World put out their own comic-sized catalog filled with games, books, toys and puzzles that dealt mostly with superheroes from mostly DC Comics and Marvel Comics. There are a few items with Fonzie, Planet of the Apes, Seseme Street, Space: 1999 and Star Trek. I only have three issues and the first two are in pretty bad shape because they were comic book versions of the Sears Wish Book for me. While I wanted to have almost everything in the superhero catalogs, I never actually sent in an order.

One thing that I did find odd is the titles of the issues. The first issue was The Superhero Catalog, the second was The Superhero Book of Goodies and the fourth was The Superhero Catalogue.

Checking on eBay, it seems that there is a mess up with the numbering on volume 7. The cover has #4 while the small print on the first page indicates volume 7. After pulling out my magnifying glass so I could read the small print, I found my #4 is actually volume 7, fall 1978. I never knew that all these long years.

Thrift Store Finds: Hulk Figure And Iron Man Regener8'rs Vechicle

I found two cool toys today at a local thrift store. They are a Hulk figure and an Iron Man Regener8'rs vehicle.

The Hulk figure has a feature that you can push his upper torso up and down thus giving having him go from six-pack abs to a four-pack. His arms and head does. 1996 is printed on the bottom of the Hulk's left foot.

The Iron Man Regener8'rs is a pretty cool vehicle that can be transformed into eight different vehicles. Not only does the three-part body twists and turns but the tires move 360 degrees. I can turn the Iron Man Regener8'rs into more than eight vehicles even if some of them will not roll properly.
